Following a three-year interlude, Kitsuné Club Night’s French Kiss Party is back this Valentine’s weekend with a very special party on the 15th February at London’s infamous Village Underground. Deriving its name from the Japanese word for fox, Kitsuné is a French electronic music record label and fashion label launched in 2002. In Japanese legend, the fox is able to change its appearance and face, thus reflecting the diverse avenues and adaptability of the Paris-based brand. A true gem for any lover of 90s house is Kitsuné’s recent House America compilation available to stream on Spotify, featuring reworks of classics by Frankie Knuckles, David Morales and Crystal Waters.
In what promises to be a truly memorable evening celebrating the love of electronica, Kitsuné’s carefully curated line up for 15th February boasts immense talent from across the globe.
First up is New York’s Baltra, whose debut album Ted released in summer 2019 received international acclaim for its raw intimacy and multiplicity. Dedicated to his father after his sudden passing, Baltra has spoken about ‘staying true to [his] emotions’ throughout the album’s journey. Not one to stick to a specific genre, Baltra navigates through drum n bass, dubstep, minimal techno, ambient and lo-fi house across Ted’s 73 minute run-time. Stand-out tracks include the lead single ‘Ahead of You’, which sees Baltra collaborate with South Korean artist Park Hye Jin and the Burial-inspired ‘Study of You’, which intermixes fragments of city sounds and echoey vocals with experimental dubstep. Ahead of his set tomorrow, wrap your ears around the aptly named ‘You Give Me Love’, which dropped today on 14th February.
Next up to share the booth are Adryiano and Harrison BDP, who have recently released EP’s, entitled ‘Want U 2 Feel’ and ‘The BDP Tape Vol 2’ respectively. This isn’t the first time that these two artists have collaborated, having shared the spotlight at Berlin’s Watergate and London’s fabric in 2019. Fusing together their German and Welsh influences, the pair work together dynamically, digging deep into their collections to bring something unique to the table.
Based in Edinburgh, Theo Kottis is renowned for his Italo and synth infused beats as exemplified in his latest single ‘Clear’ released via SKINT. After releasing his debut album Beautiful Strangers in June 2019, Kottis has hinted that this is just the beginning of a trilogy of LP’s to be released in the coming years through his own label, which has allowed him both the creativity and opportunity to experiment with music style, production, artwork and logistics.
DJ and radio show host Jay Carder focuses on music that speaks to the soul, taking inspiration from all corners of the globe. Her 2019 monthly collaboration on Soho Radio, ‘House of Carder x Wavlngth’, champions downtempo and electronic sounds from India, whilst ‘The Spotlight’ shines a light on individuals making movements within the electronic sphere, whether that be emerging artists or industry professionals. To get you grooving, Carder’s exclusive Kitsuné French Kiss Party mix offers a glimpse of what’s to come.
This is one Valentine’s party not to be missed.
