Top Picks: January 2020

Every month our featured Top Picks present new tracks, upcoming shows and everything else you need to know from five of our favourite live electronica acts. Our team of passionate music lovers at Yutaru are constantly looking for the best musical talent from across the world, showcasing a wide array of high-calibre artists in this monthly guide.

Yulia Niko

Yulia Niko is a prodigy of underground electronic music. Best known for her creative and diverse techno sound, the Russian-born DJ has found her niche amongst some of the most respected talents in New York City, where she studied and began producing her own tracks. Now residing in Berlin, and working on her vinyl-only label TochnoTechno, Yulia Niko continues to pioneer a unique form of acid-infused electronica.

Ghost of Christmas

With an identity shrouded in mystery, Ghost of Christmas is affirmed by the musical and visual aids which make up his craft. Since his debut in 2015, the French artist has released several EP’s which experiment with hypnotic synth loops and organic production. Alongside the release of his latest EP, ‘Sideways’, we’re hoping 2020 sees Ghost of Christmas back on the live stage.

Ben Böhmer

German DJ and composer Ben Böhmer is defined by his specialty of deep and progressive house music. Under the notable influence of many different music genres, Böhmer’s artistry culminates in a spectacular showcase of electronic experimentation. Although born from a place of loss and heartache, his debut LP, Breathing, offers glimpses of hope and optimism which chart his personal growth both as an individual and an artist.

Sofia Kourtesis

A self-described ‘travelling bedroom producer’, Sofia Kourtesis’ sound exists somewhere along the boundary between contemporary dance and otherworldly soundscapes. Undeniably influenced in part by her Latin roots, her music also spans a transatlantic experience of raw and energetic electronica. Multidisciplinary by all definitions, we’re certain there’s an exciting career ahead for Kourtesis.

Lane 8

Daniel Goldstein, better known by his stage name Lane 8, is well-versed in the production of smooth, melodic house music. Toeing the line between dreamy atmospheric instrumentation and pulsing electronica, it’s no surprise that the American producer’s music has earned him international critical acclaim throughout his steady rise to stardom. A true collaboration between artists from all walks of life, Lane 8’s latest album, Brightest Lights, features Arctic Lake, POLIÇA, Jens Kuross, Kauf and Nevve.
